There are two sets of Report Viewer options depending on whether a document or a report is rendered.  A document, such as an invoice, will be viewed with Document View options whereas a report file will be viewed with Report View options.

The table below lists the Document View features. 

 

Document View Options

Description

Print

Evokes the system Print dialog prompting for printer location and pages to print, etc.

Save

Opens the Microsoft Windows Save a Copy… dialog prompting for a name and location to save the document as a physical file.

Adobe Connect Live Meeting

Opens Acrobat Connect live meeting interface where users can share documents through their desktop. 

The following options are also available through the drop-down menu:

Page Navigation

Page navigation: previous page, last page, or input a specific page number.

Page Zoom

Display zoom options: zoom out, zoom in, or enter a particular size percentage to render. 

The following options are also available through the drop-down menu:

Multiple Document View

Changes the viewer to display all pages and enables user to scroll through the documents.

Single Document View

Changes the viewer to display one page at a time.

Find in Document(s)

Allows the user to search through the page content. 

The following options are also available through the drop-down menu:

Jump to Page (using images)

Allows user to go to a specific page by selecting a thumbnail view of the page.

Jump to Page (using bookmarks)

Jump to Allows the user to select a bookmarked page to access from a list of bookmarks.

Search

Performs a search through all documents being viewed and opens a search results pane with highlighted matches.

Help

Allows user access to various Adobe Reader and Complete Reader help resources.

Attachments

Allows user to view files that may be attached to those currently be viewed.

Comments

Allows user to view and add comments to the document.

 

 

Report View Options

 

Report Viewer options are detailed in the following table.

 

Report View Options

Description

Show or Hide Document Map

The document map allows a user to jump to other referenced locations within the report such as breaks and individual records.

Show or  Hide Parameter Area

This option allows the user to show or hide the parameter entry area.

Page Navigation

User can choose to navigate to the first, previous, next, or last page or choose to enter a page number to jump to in the report.

Refresh Report

Regenerates the report.  When changes are made to the report parameters a user will need to either refresh the report using this option or press View Report.

Print Report

Opens a Print dialog where a user can send the contents of the report to a printer.

Save Report

A user can select from several options to save the output of the report in a physical form by pressing Export.  The options available to export the file include:

Zoom Display

A user can change the size of the report by choosing from a list of zoom options:

Report Search

A user can enter a description in the blank text box and press Find to search the contents of the opened reports.  Search hits will be highlighted and the user can toggle back and forth between the matches using the Find and Next buttons.

 

A user can quickly become accustomed to using the various report options and a user will know when the Report Viewer is generated by a “Report is being generated” message (Fig. 14).

If this indicator is not present or if report parameters have changed, then a user will need to regenerate the report by pressing the View Report button or page refresh ().

 

The output of each report will either be in landscape or portrait layout, depending on the need of the report.  While the Report Viewer window can be adjusted, the layout cannot be altered without special report customization.
