A matrix can be viewed as a table with an unlimited amount of rows and columns with two labeled sides: X-coordinate (X Range) and the Y-coordinate (Y Range).

Figure 16: Matrix of X and Y Coordinates
At the intersection of the two coordinates is the information (rate and breakpoints) that is to be returned as rating information to MoversSuite.
In the Rate Matrix setup of the MoversSuite Administration - web, a user can define each coordinate by specifying one of the following for either side (defined as Rate Matrix Range Types):
Cubic Feet
Linear Feet
Miles
Weight
MoversSuite currently provides a single, preset Rate Matrix entitled “Miles and Weight” with each release. It contains a X-coordinate of Miles and a Y-coordinate of Weight.

Figure 17: Graphical representation of the "Miles and Weight" Rate Matrix
Miles are arranged on the left in ten mile increments and the weight is grouped beginning at 2,100 pounds. In the excerpt from the Rate Matrix report for Miles and Weight, see Figure 18 (below), if the distance of a move was 115 miles and the total weight assigned to the order was 2,500 pounds, then the rate that would be returned to the application would be $47.54.

Figure 18: Miles and Weight Rate Matrix example
Notice that there are breakpoints for each axis. The Breakpoint X is the Miles axis, which is not used in this model, and Breakpoint Y is for the Weight axis. The breakpoint instructs the logic to jump up to the next Rate if the quantity is within the range AND above the breakpoint. To continue with the previous example, if the total weight of the move was 3,500 pounds (instead of 2,500), then it would be above the breakpoint of 3,444 pounds and the charge would be $40.93 instead (jumping up to the next tier).
To give a user a different perspective on the same data presented within the Miles and Weight Rate Matrix, the following table is grouped by the Y-coordinate (Weight) instead.
